Children at My Knee

The sun has set on this autumn day
My curtains are ruffled by a warm soft breeze.
Another week is starting and I wonder
What will be the things that please.

What will be the things that trouble me
And cause my heart some pain.
What my journey will be like
In sunshine and in rain.

Changes for my family
Which cause me some concern
I hope that I can find
The peace for which I yearn.

They say it isn’t easy when children are so small
A baby in your arms and another at your knee.
But it brought to me contentment
And I could plainly see.

Just where these children were
And the things that caused them pain
Somehow I imagine I would like
To return to those days again.

The busy schooldays and holidays ~
The uniforms to press
Driving them to functions
With a car in such a mess.

Standing on the sidelines cheering
In the cold of a winter storm
Hurrying back home again
And making sure they were warm.

It’s different now that they have grown
And made their way in life.
Driving cars and buying houses ~
A husband, partner ~ wife.

But it doesn’t stop me worrying
Although they are fully grown
With jobs and responsibilities
And children of their own.

My heart could burst with the pride I have
And the joys that they bring to me
But I still remember the contentment
Of children at my knee.

A Baby's Love

A baby's trust, a baby's love
Truly a blessing from above
The little baby has no fears
Trusts everyone, holds everyone dear
I wish we all could love like that
Instead of making others fret
Imagine what a world of love
We could have, if we just learned of
The little child, the trusting baby
Who never doubts, never says maybe

My Granddaughter

What hearts shall be hardened by lifes' trials
To deepen wounds of the spirit
Filled with bitterness and anger
That kind deeds and words
Can't reach

Which man on earth cannot be seen
With a tear in his eyes
Because of something that has befallen him

What woman can stand and say
I have not had my life changed because of a child
Is there any grandparents that have not at some point in their lives
Felt the change take place in their hearts
That has been created by a grandchild

Is there not one time that you have laughed because of something a child said
Is there not perhaps a time you have yourself laughed because of a child's deeds

My granddaughter is my inner strength
She is the motivation for my being
She is the laughter on my heart
My granddaughter is the love that forever dwells upon my spirit

Never is there a time space in my life
That does not have a place where my granddaughter dwells

Children come to me and I shall gladden thy heart
As you have done so many times for me

Little ones sit by my side
And I shall tell you stories
Stories that shall make you think

Nieces and nephews come sit a spell
And I shall share many splendorous things with you

For all of the years and tiny moments of love and life that you have willingly given unto me
I Thank You my Granddaughter

You cannot live without a child uplifting your life in some way.
And they do it without price.
Merely for the sum of loving them in return.

Child of Mine

Child of Light
Sun-kissed skin
Eyes like stars
True innocence within.

Child of Love
Twinkle of my eyes
Pure and true
Love that never dies.

Child of Forgiveness
Heart so true
Beauty and joy
Forever surrounds you.

Child of Happiness
Laughter inside
Heart so grateful
Child of mine.

When a Child Cries

When the child cries
There's always a reason
A pain of the heart
Of the mind
Of the soul
Or another kind

That sweet child ever cried just for the sake of time
She cried out for a reason
For a touch
A word
A sound yet unheard
In her young life
Too often has fallen
A dark cloud of discouraging
Voices calling

When a child cries
An ear far away
Will hear him
Call to him
Bring him to thy chest
There shall this child find
Comfort, peace
Solace and rest

When a child cries
Are you the one listening
With heart and soul
And bright smiles glistening

Do you extend a welcoming touch
To ease the pain
To stop the tears and such

When a child cries
There is always a reason
Don't ignore her
Be the spirit that lifts her
Be the loving angel
That hesitates not to begift her

When the child cries
Reach out to hold him
Try understanding
With words that won't scold him

As the cry of the child subsides
To the peace
As the pain and the suffering
Give way to release
As the joy rebuilds
The soul of the child

Give thanks ! For that child
One day long ago.....Was you!
